This is a view of the Haymarket area of Newcastle with lots to see from the left the white building is the Civic Centre which was opened in 1968 by King Olaf of Norway. The church is St Thomas the matyr which can be traced back to 1170 when one of the murderers of Thomas a Beckett (Hugh de Morvillle) dedicated the original church. The current church was designed by John Dobson and opened in 1830.
The winged statue is the Boer War memorial and the statue represents Victory and has been there since 1908.
Finally the glass fronted dome is the new Haymarket metro Station which has undergone an excellent revamp in the last 2 years and is part of the Tyne & Wear metro system.
